Born from a Dutch design school project, Bugaboo reinvented the stroller as a desirable lifestyle product. Certified B Corp with Dutch design DNA. Now also owns Joolz.
Founder story
Started as Max Barenbrug's graduation project at Design Academy Eindhoven. He and his brother-in-law Eduard Zanen (a doctor) couldn't find a manufacturer willing to produce the radical design, so they self-funded and built it themselves. Popularised by Sex and the City in 2002.
Materials
Premium engineering materials. Some recycled fabrics in newer lines.
Sustainability
Certified B Corp. Member of Sustainable Apparel Coalition since 2017. Uses HIGG index for sustainability scoring.
Ownership
Owned by Mubadala Capital (Abu Dhabi sovereign wealth fund) since ~2023, previously Bain Capital (2018)
